  • Hello Frater Steven,

    Where are you?

    Missing you dearly,

  • Soror Norma....It was great to read your reply....Like you I to so enjoy the Oneness with the whole while walking.....and I believe it is good to discuss the Sanctum ....We each go through a time when we just want to do everything just right.....It is so important by the time we find the Path ...that we do think about ...am I doing this or that the way it should be done....Oh I remember.....and to me now I feel that when we go through that ... to me ...it shows how serious we see our role in the Rosicrucian Community ....... How we view the Teachings.... and Just how strongly we feel about making a positive difference in the world in which we live....As we practice over the years ...we do get better at it and Soror from the energy you leave as you pass by....You as I are still fired up with that same desire to do what needs to be done ........LLL Soror......

Hi Soror Donna and Frater JP, thank you for sharing, I do have a small Sanctum in a corner of my room right next to my bed...it is set up very simple with the objects suggested by the Order, but eventhough I visit it frequently and specially Thursday nights, I have found throughout the years that I can also meditate in different places and/or activities...I do a lot of what I call "walking meditation" and for me, is when I receive so much inspiration and answers to my questions...and it is when I feel so much a part of everything...with Peace Profound to all!!!!

    Hello Soror Donna and others,
Your statement that the candle and incense may not be necessary for you any more resonates with me. Although I use those items myself, I also have an equal number of meditations during which I do not use incense or candles, knowing that the structure of my meditation and the thoughts I hold in my mind are the most important things.
    Many blessings and Peace Profound,

Over the years of course the Sanctum changes and indeed my did as well... Early on it was difficult for me to find any where to escape the drama of others around me....I was distracted easily....I found a space about eight feet by ten ...actually plastered up some plywood to create a place.... a small closet lost its door and with some paint that became the clouds over Mt. Olympus looking down at the sea....The inside of the rest of the roomwas to the East my Altar The Rose Cross~ Three white candles ~ a small candle that represented the Ever burning Light Within and in front The Incense burner Which was always heavy with the aroma of the Rosicrucian incense... In back of the Altar from ceiling to floor was a rendition of the Rosicrucian Knight on Steed with shield and sheathed Sword..... In the South I placed a pillow on the floor and I had a pillow in the West. The Pillow in the South was for Special Help to feel invited and welcome.... On the West wall I painted a Path through large Trees... This was a very sacred place for me and was kept that way...provided me a place where much of my Degree studies and all of my Neophyte Studies took place ....Much Meditation.... When I left that house I was ready to except my Sanctum in an intirely different way..... My Sanctum was Within ~~~ Although The aroma of Rosicrucian incense remains seductive to me and I do find a candle extremely inspiring they are no longer essential to working Meditations or Special Helper Visits... and if I close my eyes It's all around me just as it was... Light ~ Life ~ and Love are never far It seems~~~~~

  • Hello Frater Steve G.,
Thank you for starting this discussion.
My Sanctum has evolved over the years because I have lived in various places. Sometimes it was very simple and portable, other times it was more permanent.
Currently, I am very fortunate to have a finished basement with a room dedicated to yoga, other forms of exercise and spiritual work. In that room there are six altars, each for different spiritual paths. Two altars are for Rosicrucian, Kabbalistic or Martinist work. The others are dedicated to Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Earth-based faiths.
The two R+C, TMO and Kabbalistic altars have two candles in common, one has a mirror, a goblet and a bowl of water that is freshened regularly. The other altar has some personal ritualistic items.
I use the room for meditation at least twice a day, and I study there as well. Also, I have private clients coming over for training in meditation and yoga and spiritual coaching.
According to the Rosicrucian Manual, the traditional R+C altar has at the least a mirror and two candles.
I would guess that other Fraters and Sorores have made minor substitutions or additions to these items.
In my opinion, start with minimum features and then make it personal!
Best wishes for Peace Profound in 2010 and beyond,
    Frater JPG
